Greener, more easily replaceable and recyclable, European batteries will have to adapt to new legislation that covers their entire life cycle.

So decided the European Union, and the rule applies both to cars and to smartphones, computers or household appliances.

Mandatory labeling

The text also provides for a new display for consumers with the obligation to affix labels or QR Codes detailing performance, composition and lifespan.

The total carbon footprint of each battery, from mining to recycling, will also need to be known to consumers.

And from 2027, the automotive sector will only be able to include in its electric vehicles batteries that do not exceed a certain maximum carbon footprint.
