Yemen.. Houthi escalation and a European-American call for calm

The terrorist Houthi militia escalated its attacks on the Saada, Al-Jawf, and Taiz fronts, in conjunction with European-American assurances of the need to avoid combat escalation in Yemen, and to return to a long and broad truce.

This came in a joint statement issued after the meeting of the Union's ambassadors with the US ambassador to Yemen, which discussed the recent political developments in Yemen, in light of the escalation of the Houthi militia and its war on ports and civilian infrastructure.

The account of the European Mission to Yemen on "Twitter" stated that the ambassadors "emphasized the need to avoid escalation, restraint and constructive engagement with the United Nations Special Envoy to re-establish a long and broad truce."

Last Monday, the European Union foreign ministers called on the Houthi militia to abandon extremist positions and engage constructively with the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg.

This comes as the Houthi militia continued its combat escalation, launching attacks on the positions of the Yemeni army and the resistance in the Ghafrah area of Al-Zahir district of the Saada border governorate with Saudi Arabia.

Field sources stated that the Houthi attacks came after the arrival of reinforcements and weapons to its elements at the border front, and the attacks were repelled and the Houthis' plan to penetrate those fronts was thwarted.

In Al-Jawf, the Houthi militia sent new reinforcements towards the Al-Alam front, after it bombed travelers on the international road in the Al-Ruwaik area, which caused traffic to stop there, and clashes broke out between tribal militants and the army and resistance forces in Marib.

According to field sources, the confrontations between the two sides concentrated in the Ghwerban area, and caused 7 deaths on both sides, while tribal and local mediations are trying to stop the clashes fueled by the Houthi militia with weapons.

In Taiz, the Houthi militia shelled with artillery and machine-gun shells residential neighborhoods in the Salh district, from their positions in Taba Sofitel, causing casualties among civilians.

In addition, Houthi mines killed 4 civilians and injured five others, including children, in separate areas during the past few hours.

On the other hand, a report issued by the Human Rights Office in Marib stated that it monitored 2,668 cases of violations committed by the Houthi militia against facilities and medical personnel during the war years, which varied between bombing, killing, injury and arrest, in addition to depriving more than 600,000 citizens of health care.

A human rights report by Musawah Organization for Rights and Freedoms monitored 287 violations against human rights defenders in Yemen during the years of war, including cases of killing, injury, kidnapping, enforced disappearance, arbitrary arrest, displacement, threats, intimidation, dismissal from public office, travel ban, and looting of private property.
