Winter is usually a time when care is strained when viral diseases start to spread in society.

Region Kronoberg has had to cancel planned operations due to large overcrowding.

But in the Kalmar region, the director of health care does not describe the situation as equally strained.

- I would say that there is a very even load at our three hospitals, says Johan Rosenqvist.

Better location situation

During Friday morning, a few patients were registered for treatment of covid-19.

But the situation is unpredictable and the situation can quickly change, according to Johan Rosenqvist.

- We have a relatively high load on care in the county right now, but no more than it usually is at this time of year.

We have a better position situation than it has been in the past few weeks.

When SVT talks to the region on Friday morning, the hospitals in Kalmar, Oskarshamn and Västervik have spare plasters.

Although some departments experience overcrowding.

- If it gets worse, we have to cut back on the planned activities and then we have to redistribute resources in different ways.

How it is distributed depends on how situations look, says the director of healthcare.

Canceled operations

The Kalmar region has also had to cancel planned operations, although only a few in Västervik.

- At the hospitals in Oskarshamn and Kalmar, we have seen that we did not need to do that, says Johan Rosenqvist during the Friday afternoon.
