Journalist and media critic Daniel Schneidermann announced on Friday that he would stop presenting his weekly online program “Arrêt sur images” which will be presented in January by journalists Paul Aveline and Nassira el Moaddem.

The broadcast of December 16, 2022 “will be, personally, my last Stop on Images.

After 27 years of this weekly ceremony (including 15 years here, on this site), the time seems to have come to pass the baton to young people, ”wrote Daniel Schneidermann, 64, in the newsletter of the media that he launched in 2007. "From the start of the school year in January 2023, you will find at the presentation of this program faces that you already know, Paul Aveline and Nassira el Moaddem", he announces on the program's website. .

Pioneer in image decryption

The latter specifies that he will remain present in 2023 in two programs “

 Post Pop

, on cinema, and

On the board

, on comics”.

He will also return to the Arrêt sur images set in January in order to “take stock of these almost three decades” of broadcasting.

Launched in 1995 on La Cinquième, “Arrêt sur images” was a pioneer in terms of deciphering images and media discourse.

The only one of its kind in the audiovisual landscape, its removal by France 5 in June 2007 had sparked an outcry, especially on the left, and an online support petition had collected more than 180,000 signatures.

The journalist said at the time that the show had been shut down because it “had been pissing off stars and broadcast bosses for years”.

He had launched two months later his site of reflection and analysis of the media (arretsurimage.net) and thus continued his flagship program online.
