got out of their enclosure in the monkey house.

Staff on the premises who lock themselves in for their own safety.

  • The police were alerted, sent a large number of patrols to the park, and helped with

    drones

in the search for the animals.

  • The zoo called in

    its own shooters

, who shot dead two of the loose monkeys.

The third chimpanzee made his way back into the monkey house on his own.

  • Two more monkeys

Killed for safety reasons

  • The surviving four monkeys are

    trapped in the monkey house

, but have, despite attempts, not been able to be closed in their enclosures.

  • The injured

    chimpanzee

    could not be cared for.

  • According to an early statement from the park's information director, the animals were shot dead because there was no anesthetic to put them to sleep, but the statement was retracted.

    According to the park

    , for safety reasons

, the type of animals that are classified as high risk and can be dangerous to humans, such as chimpanzees, are euthanized.

Stun darts must be fired from close range and take around ten minutes to work.

Police reports and criticism

  • The police have drawn up a report of a suspected

violation of the Animal Welfare Act

, for the event that the enclosures were not sufficiently secure against escape.

  • A private person has reported the zoo to the police for

    causing danger to others

, and the zoo has received criticism from, among other things, animal rights organizations and a former keeper.

  • Veterinarian Bengt Röken says that one should not take chances in difficult situations, but rather shoot, as it can be complicated to anesthetize chimpanzees.

So the drama can end

  • When

    veterinarian Jonas Malmsten is interviewed

, he says that there are two scenarios for how the drama can end - either you have to try to lure the chimpanzees in with food or water, or they

    may have to be shot.
