German police announced the killing of the perpetrator of the hostage-taking operation, Saturday, in a shopping center in Dresden, during a major operation carried out by the security forces.

"The hostage-taking in Dresden is over," police said in a tweet, adding, "The situation is no longer dangerous."

"During the attack and the release of the hostages, the 40-year-old man sustained fatal injuries," the police said in a statement.

It added that it had cared for two people with "no apparent injuries," without giving further details about the suspect.

And lifted the security measures taken in the center of the capital of the region of Saxony.

The police had said earlier that they were "in contact" with the suspect, explaining that the intervention and "negotiation" groups were "also present at the scene."
