• Trans Law Policy: the PSOE touches on gender self-determination and proposes that minors under 16 years of age have to go through a judge

  • Survey 65% ask to limit the change of gender in minors promoted by the Trans Law

"With Carmen Calvo we are not safe!", "PSOE, listen, we are in the fight!"... Thousands of

LGTBI

cries of warning and break with the Socialist Party have been heard this Saturday in many places in Spain in dozens of demonstrations and rallies called to prevent "the setback in the human rights of trans people".

According to the organizers, the different protests throughout the country have brought together

20,000 people

.

The demonstration in Madrid was attended by Podemos Madrid as a party and several leaders of the

purple

formation , including

Ángela Rodríguez Pam

, Secretary of State for Equality and against Gender Violence, or

Boti García Rodrigo

, general director of Sexual Diversity and LGTBI Rights of the Ministry of Equality.

Both have been placed inside the march without occupying a place at the head.

"When there is progress there is always fear and there are people within the PSOE who are afraid of moving forward," Rodríguez Pam declared.

"There are many people from the PSOE who are disappointed with the amendments," she insisted before adding: "We are negotiating with the PSOE to modify the amendment on minors, but for now it maintains it. We trust that you will listen to us because it is about defend the rights of trans people".

For his part, García Rodrigo has commented: "Human rights cannot be amended. And the PSOE amendments cut human rights. I trust that the PSOE, which has always been in the fight for LGTBI rights, does not make the mistake of voting together with the PP".

Not long ago, just two years ago, the

FELGTBI+

(State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals, Bisexuals and more) and the

Fundación Triángulo

said that the PSOE was "the party that has achieved the most in relation to our rights, but this Recognition does not imply infinite credit in defense of sexual diversity".

It is even less, barely a year and a half, that the vice president of

COGAM

(Collective of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals of Madrid),

Santiago Rivero

, joined the PSOE list led by

Ángel Gabilondo

for the presidency of the Community of Madrid in the 2021 regional elections.

And barely three months ago, these organizations and

Chrysallis

(the association of trans children and youth families) met with the Socialist Parliamentary Group to "enrich and improve" the Trans and LGTBI Bill that they had agreed to and unblocked a year earlier with the Government and that in this autumn of 2022 it was once again in danger of being delayed.

"We are sure that, without prejudice to exploring improvements to the text that were pending, the PSOE will honor its word and what has been agreed and will respect the agreement reached."

Well, the credit of the LGTBI collectives to the PSOE has ended.

It is true that during the last two months, these organizations have been warning that the Socialist Party puts the processing of the Trans Law "at serious risk" with an "unacceptable" extension of amendments, but until this Saturday they had never staged a public break with demonstrations and popular concentrations in

17 cities of 11 autonomous communities

.

PSOE amendments

The reason is several amendments by the PSOE itself to the law promoted by the Ministry of Equality (Podemos).

One points out that not only

minors between the ages of 12 and 14

must appear before the judge to change their identity, but also those

between the ages of 14 and 16

, something that did not appear in the text agreed a year ago and which stated that it was enough to that they were accompanied by their parents or guardians.

And another talks about the need for migrants to obtain a paper from their embassies that certifies that the country of origin recognizes that it does not accept gender self-determination.

"That, in practice, is impossible," say LGTBI groups such as

Euforia

, which has not joined the demonstrations "because these groups met and agreed with the PSOE, which has now taken the piss," but it is absolutely critical. with "this minimum law, which does not recognize non-binary people, subjects migrants to cruelty and takes steps back in gender self-determination", in quotes from Natalia Aventin, president of this association born from a split from Chrysallis.

That is also the argument of the large and historic LGTBI groups that have taken to the streets with the sole purpose of "demanding the PSOE not to cut or limit the human rights of trans people."

Thousands of people in cities across half the country have disfigured the behavior of an official socialism that in the past was their ally and that they now see as a "traitor."

The gap with the PSOE is so significant that one of the 64 organizing organizations is called...

Pedro Zerolo Foundation

.

Uge Santiago

, president of the FELGTBI+, has been very harsh in conversation with this newspaper: "We are here so that the Government and the Socialist Parliamentary Group listen to us. The PSOE amendments to the law are a tradition and a disappointment, because the project

that

"We agreed with Carmen Calvo guaranteed the legal security of gender self-determination and now we see a setback. Now, the PSOE returns to prosecute a process for minors that even the Supreme Court indicates can be done with the accompaniment of parents."

-And why do you think the PSOE has changed its mind?

- You have taken a step back due to internal fears of socialist feminists who are against the human rights of trans people.

I ask the PSOE to be brave once and for all.

Also walking behind the banners was the historic

Mar Cambrollé

, president of the

Trans Platform Federation

.

"We demand that the PSIE withdraw a directly unconstitutional amendment, contrary to what various regional laws establish and that will leave minors who have already changed their identity in limbo. Sánchez has a pending issue in the EU presidency: that the PSOE be a reference in Europe for trans rights and not a hostile obstacle towards trans people".

-What effects will an amended law have as the PSOE wants?

- It is painful that the PSOE has lost its way.

And dangerous because his attitude normalizes the impunity with which we are attacked.

While the leaders of the collectives speak, the demonstrators dance, sing, chant and shout.

In the demonstration in Madrid, combat slogans are heard: "If there is no trans law there will be trans fury" "Our rights are not negotiated."

"Without minors, there is no Trans Law, without non-binary there is no pride."

There are 48 hours

left

for the Law to be voted on in Congress.

But, without female

ministers behind the banners and with militants in the streets,

the asphalt protest of some groups that the PSOE has traditionally set its sights on and that have been essential for progress in equality and against discrimination based on gender in Spain.
