Since 1972, the United Nations has designated world heritage sites around the world to be preserved for the future.

Today, there are over 1,000 places in 167 countries on the list.

In Visby, which joined the list in 1995, they celebrate 50 years with guided tours and torchlight processions.

- I think that we in Visby are becoming a bit home blind.

We don't see what's in front of us.

It is a city that has existed since the Middle Ages but which we also live in today, says Anneli Bergholm Söder, county councilor at the Gotland County Board.
