In the spring of 2021, Försvarets materielverk (FMV) signed a contract with the company Grob Aircraft in Germany to deliver a new school aircraft system.

In addition to the aircraft, of the Grob 120TP model, simulators, flight safety equipment and maintenance of the plane and simulators are included in the contract.

In the Swedish military world, the plane will be called SK40.

At first seven aircraft were ordered, but now FMV has exercised an option in the contract and added three more.

FMV writes in a press release that the first three aircraft as well as the simulator and flight safety equipment are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of next year.

All ten aircraft will then be commissioned gradually during the year.

The goal is for the training system to be ready at the Malmen airfield in Linköping for the first batch of student pilots during the summer of 2024.

The Air Force also chooses to order additional flight safety equipment, a planning tool for students and teachers, as well as training in the system for all flight instructors and ground personnel within the Air Force.
