“Of course I will run,” Scholz told newspapers from the Funke media group.

He noted that he was satisfied with the first year of his rule and wants the government coalition to "receive a mandate."

According to the chancellor, Germany is strong enough to survive the consequences of the Russian military operation in Ukraine for Europe.

He also noted that it is no longer worth counting on Russian energy supplies.

“Now we are making the necessary decisions in order to become independent in the long term,” Scholz said.

Olaf Scholz became Chancellor of Germany on December 8, 2021, replacing Angela Merkel, who led the German government for the previous 16 years.
