Chinanews, Hong Kong, December 8 (Reporter Han Xingtong) MTR Corporation Limited (MTR Corporation) submitted a report to the SAR government on the 8th regarding the train accident on the Tseung Kwan O Line.

Preliminary investigations believe that in the coupler device between the two cars of the connecting train, a buffer component failed to loosen, and the protection device was activated to stop the train, but the train did not deviate from the track.

At about 8:30 a.m. on December 5 (Monday), a train departing from Cannes towards North Point was about to enter Tseung Kwan O Station, and a mechanical failure occurred between the two trains, which triggered related safety issues. Protective equipment caused the train to stop when it was still some distance away from Tseung Kwan O Station and an alarm was issued.

During the accident, about 1,500 passengers were evacuated via rail, and two of them reported feeling unwell.

Afterwards, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government expressed great concern about the incident and requested the MTR Corporation to find out the cause of the accident as soon as possible and submit a preliminary investigation report on the accident within 3 days.

The MTR Corporation has submitted an investigation report to the SAR government on the 8th.

Li Jiarun, director of train services of the MTR Corporation, said that it is initially believed that a buffer component in the coupler device between the sixth and seventh cars of the connecting train failed to loosen, which caused the workshop passage to be lengthened, and the protection device was activated. The train stopped. At that time, the workshop passage and the couplers were still fastened, and the train did not deviate from the track.

As for why the buffer was loosened, Li Jiarun said that the MTR Corporation will conduct an in-depth study with the technical team of the supplier. Factors, etc. are studied to find out the cause of the accident.

Li Jiarun also said that the MTR Corporation has begun to inspect similar devices on trains, and the supplier has confirmed that similar devices on trains are operating safely. MTR Corporation will closely monitor the situation in the future and will submit a detailed inspection report to the government within two months.
