Monitoring a new sub-variant of the "Omicron" mutant in Kazakhstan

A source in the Health and Epidemiological Surveillance Office, in the city of Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, stated that a new sub-variant of the "Omicron" mutant of the Corona virus, "BQ 1.1", known as "Hellhound" was detected in the Kazakh capital.

The deputy head of the office, Zhanna Pralyaeva, confirmed the discovery of the new sub-variant in patient samples, while speaking at a press conference, according to Kazinform, the Kazakh news agency, on Wednesday.

Praliev added that 322 cases of coronavirus had been recorded in Astana since early December.

The "Omicron" mutant is still the dominant variant of the Corona virus, in the Kazakh capital.
