The review is part of the national supervision of emergency healthcare that IVO carries out.

What is the main thing you come up with regarding the criticism of the University Hospital in Linköping?

- The care provider has not ensured that the healthcare system has available care places based on the actual need, says Marie Åberg, responsible for the national supervision of emergency healthcare.

"Results in serious medical damage"

How serious is this?

- It is the case that this means that patients have suffered or are at risk of suffering a serious medical injury, which is very serious.

What happens now?

- Now, by February 1, 2023 at the latest, the University Hospital must report its position on the deficiencies that IVO has identified.

What measures have been taken or are planned to be taken to remedy the deficiencies, says Marie Åberg.

Ninnie Borendal, care director Region Östergötland comments on the criticism from IVO that they received yesterday.

- We take criticism very seriously.

We are tasked with expanding the care places, in the short and long term, which we are already working on.

But we welcome this review, she says.

The Swedish Work Environment Agency is also now reviewing the emergency hospitals, as SVT Nyheter Öst previously reported:
