The background to the appeal was the risks that exist for the groundwater on Gotland.

Today's ruling means that Cementa can continue its lime mining until the turn of the year.

The company's previous permit expired in autumn 2021. The Riksdag then decided on a temporary amendment to the Environmental Code.

A new verdict is expected

The four environmental organizations that appealed the government decision believe that it is against the constitution.

However, the Supreme Administrative Court considers that the decision does not contravene any legal rules.

The company has made a new application for its future operations - from the turn of the year and four years from now.

That judgment will come on December 13.
