• Since the All Saints holidays, municipal police officers accompany families on their way to Charles-Hermite school in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.

  • This device aims to reassure children and their parents in a neighborhood where crack users roam.

  • The town hall wants the creation of places of reception for drug addicts in order to avoid exposing the youngest to violent images.

Anticipate fear, protect from violence, avoid fear.

This is the triple objective of the system put in place since the All Saints holidays in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.

.

The reason ?

The presence of crack users in the neighborhood since the dismantling of the Forceval square camp on October 5.

“The goal is to guarantee a moment of respite to residents in an anxiety-provoking and unpleasant context, we explain to the office of the mayor of the 18th.

We have not noted any aggression as such, but we wish to protect families and children from violent images, such as exhibitionism”.

The interest is therefore to reassure above all, we warn on the side of the municipality, while allowing the police to keep an eye on the city Valentin-Abeille: that is to say "take the pulse on the territory, to observe any changes in the behavior of drug addicts and their number".

“The card we take out when things are not going well”

A bandage on a wooden leg?

“It is never satisfactory to deploy the police because the children are afraid to go to school”, we are assured at the town hall.

The institution sees in this device a means of "protecting children from fear": "It is the card that we take out when we see that things are no longer going well", declares the mayor's office, recalling that a device a similar one had already been put in place during the evacuation of "crack hill".

So, for how long will these police officers have to accompany the families and children in the north of the capital?

Hard to say.

"The device is maintained until we find a solution to the problems of wandering", launches the town hall of the borough.

She reminds us to plead for long-term solutions and calls for places of reception in order to supervise drug users “on the roads of dealers, while guaranteeing a fair distribution on the territory.

Because by continuing to apply the logic of moving the problem elsewhere, we will not get out of it!
