As part of efforts to strengthen countermeasures against the declining birthrate, the government has started adjusting the amount of the "lump-sum childbirth and childcare allowance," which is subsidized by 420,000 yen in principle, to about 500,000 yen from next fiscal year.

If realized, it will be the largest increase since the lump-sum payment system was established.

The "lump-sum childbirth and childcare allowance", which subsidizes childbirth expenses, is currently 420,000 yen in principle, but the actual cost of childbirth, including private clinics, is about 470,000 yen, which exceeds the lump-sum allowance. The situation continues.

In response to this, Prime Minister Kishida announced in June his intention to significantly increase the "lump-sum allowance for childbirth and childcare" from next fiscal year as part of strengthening countermeasures against the declining birthrate, and discussions have been progressing within the government. .

According to those involved, as a result of the considerations so far, the government has started making adjustments to increase the lump-sum payment to about 500,000 yen from next fiscal year.

If realized, it will be the largest increase since the lump-sum payment system was established in 1994.

As a source of funding for the increase, the council of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is discussing plans to raise the upper limit of premiums for the medical care system for the elderly aged 75 and over.
