Michael Avenatti, known among other things for having defended former porn star Stephanie Clifford against ex-president Donald Trump, is already serving five years in prison for extortion and fraud.

In June, Avenatti pleaded guilty to four new counts of fraud after stealing money from clients and one count of tax evasion through his now-defunct coffee shop.

One of the people he stole from was disabled, mentally ill Geoffrey Ernest Johnson.

"To this day, I don't know why Michael lied and deceived me, why he broke my trust, why he broke my heart," Johnson wrote in a statement to the court, according to the Los Angeles Times.

In addition to Avenatti being sentenced to another 14 years in prison, he is also forced to pay seven million dollars - the equivalent of just over SEK 72 million - in damages.

"Regret me"

Before sentencing, he apologized to the four victims in the case, three of whom were in the courtroom:

- I deeply regret it.

"There is no doubt that they all deserve better and I hope that one day they will accept my apology and find it in their hearts to forgive me," he said, according to The Guardian.

Also stole from Clifford

Avenatti is currently serving time in a Southern California prison in two separate cases.

He was convicted of stealing book revenue from Stephanie Clifford and attempting to extort clothing giant Nike out of up to $25 million.
