A pioneer in the fight for gender equality, Rosa Bonheur wore pants, was unmarried and lived with other women.

Independent, she excelled in the art of representing animals, whereas animal painting was not a genre intended for women at the time.

Often rewarded at fairs and exhibitions, his works sold very well during the artist's lifetime, and are now exhibited in the largest museums in the world.

On the occasion of the bicentenary of his birth, his paintings are currently in the spotlight at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, until January 15, 2023. Preview with Leïla Jarbouai, co-curator of this exhibition.
