China This is how they forced former president Hu Jintao out of the Communist Party congress
Former Chinese President
Hu Jintao
appeared in public for the first time since his high-profile departure from the
Communist Party
Congress
in October, according to footage from state CCTV broadcast on Tuesday.
Television showed the former leader at a ceremony held Monday at Beijing
's army general hospital
in honor of former president
Jiang Zemin
, just before his cremation.
He is first seen standing next to President
Xi Jinping
as senior leaders bow three times to the remains of Jiang Zemin.
Later, he is seen walking unsteadily with the help of an attendant around the coffin.
In October, Hu Jintao, 79, appeared aged and fatigued at the Communist Party Congress.
On the last day of the meeting, he was escorted apparently against his will out of the hall where the closing ceremony of the conclave was being held.
State media reported that Hu had not been feeling well and thus left the room.
However, some interpreted the incident as a message from Xi Jinping to anyone seeking to oppose his re-election for a
third term
as general secretary.
