For six months, Dmytro Bohdanov, his wife and 12-year-old son have been fighting against the Swedish Migration Agency to get the right to daily allowance.

However, citing that they own a 2006 model car which is considered an asset, they have been refused.

- It's an old car and it all feels very unfair, says Dmytro Bohdanov to SVT Småland.

The car company's verdict: Worthless

The family has appealed the Migration Agency's decision several times, but without success.

But in November, Dmytro submitted the car for valuation at a car company in Växjö, which made the following statement:

"We have made the assessment that the car has no value".

"As the car is registered in another country, the costs are greater than the car's value and our conclusion is that it is unfortunately not worth anything in Sweden".

Missed out on SEK 30,960

Thanks to the certificate, the Migration Agency decided to give the family the right to a daily allowance of SEK 61 per adult and SEK 50 per child.

The decision came six months after the family received a residence permit in Sweden.

- The fight is over and as soon as the money appears we have to pay off the loans we took on, and maybe buy something for our boy, says Dmytro Bohdanov.

The total compensation amount for six months is SEK 30,960.

It is unclear whether the family is entitled to compensation retroactively.
