Swedish business has taken the unusual step of emailing all 65 members of Skellefteå's municipal council.

They threaten to file a report and go to court if the municipality does not allow more bus companies into local traffic.

- Business life in Skellefteå feels that there is far too much municipal activity that competes with private business life, says Mats Andersson, regional director of Swedish Business.

The municipality: Risk that prices will increase

The municipality's countermeasure is to form two new companies – one for the inner areas and the other for the outer areas to avoid ending up in court.

Whether it is enough remains to be seen.

- The risk is that there will only be one bidder in the future and that prices will increase sharply for Skellefteå municipality, says Lorents Burman (S), municipal councilor in Skellefteå.
