Lavrov: NATO's policy threatens a "direct clash" between the nuclear powers

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that NATO posed a "serious threat" to Russia and that the West's positions risked "a direct clash between the nuclear powers that will have serious consequences".

Lavrov also expressed regret at the United States' refusal to hold talks with Moscow on "strategic stability" on a range of issues related to nuclear weapons, and said that without direct talks between the world's two largest nuclear powers, the threat to global security will increase.
