The US Inflation Reduction Act, which is the basis for discrimination in subsidies for electric vehicles in Korea, will be implemented in earnest from next year.

A joint delegation from the government and the National Assembly visited the United States today (5th) to reflect our voices as much as possible in the process of enacting sub-regulations along with demands for revision of the law.

Ahn Deok-geun, head of the Trade Negotiation Headquarters, visited the United States for five days prior to the full-scale implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act next year.

He said that he would protect the interests of our companies as much as possible when preparing sub-laws scheduled for the end of this year.

[Ahn Deok-geun/Chief of Trade Negotiation Headquarters: We plan to focus on final discussions with the White House on ways to minimize problems in areas where (our companies) may be disadvantaged in the preparation of the US Treasury Guidelines (sub-law). ]

For companies that are planning to invest in the US, such as Hyundai Motor Company, the regulation to grant subsidies only to North American electric vehicles is suspended for three years, as well as easing requirements for electric vehicle battery minerals and parts, and minimizing subsidy discrimination against Korean companies when investing in clean manufacturing and power generation facilities. It seems to ask for it.

To this end, he plans to meet with senior administration officials, including U.S. Trade Representative Catherine Tai and White House senior adviser John Podesta.

As the law needs to be amended for a fundamental solution, we plan to contact major lawmakers' offices, such as the Senate Finance Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee, along with the National Assembly delegation from the Trade, Industry and Energy Committee.

[Yoon Kwan-seok/Chairman of the National Assembly Industry, Trade, and Energy Small and Medium Venture Business Committee: (In charge of the inflation reduction law) a meeting is scheduled with the chairman of the Trade Subcommittee of the Treasury Committee of the US Senate, and then in the House of Representatives, It

is done.)]

Currently, an amendment to suspend the electric vehicle subsidy requirements for three years has been proposed in the US House of Representatives, but the actual amendment is not easy.

Although President Biden recently mentioned the possibility of an amendment as the demands for correction from related countries such as Korea and the European Union intensified, it is unclear when a solution will come out.
