Canada continues its work against gangs in Haiti.

Ottawa extended this Monday, December 5, its list of personalities sanctioned for their support and financing of armed gangs.

After having targeted the political sphere, by pinning in particular former President Michel Martelly and two former Prime Ministers, it is now big names in the Haitian private sector who are targeted.

Gilbert Bigio, Reynold Deeb and Sherif Abdallah: in Haiti, these three names are famous, because they are synonymous with very large fortunes.

That they appear today on the Canadian list of people sanctioned for their financial support of gangs, is an understatement to say that this will create a stir in the private sector of the country.

Because the decision entails the immediate freezing of the assets that these three businessmen could have in Canada and also prohibits any financial transaction with them.

Ottawa specifies that these measures are being taken because there is "

reason to believe that these individuals are using their status as highly visible members of Haiti's economic elite to protect and enable the illegal activities of armed criminal gangs, including through money laundering and other acts of corruption.

But faced with this dynamic carried out from abroad and which has already singled out a former president, two former prime ministers and several parliamentarians, the justice system and the Haitian political class remain very silent.
