Eskilstuna United is the only club in the top women's and men's leagues not granted an elite license for next year.

"Eskilstuna United DFF showed negative equity in the periodized financial statements as of August 31, 2022 and thus did not meet the elite license requirement that the periodized financial statements as of that date must be zero or positive in order to be able to obtain an elite license for the year 2023," writes the licensing board in a press release.

"Feels extremely tough"

Chairman Lina Bertilsson is very disappointed by the news.

- Everyone has worked extremely hard recently to get the economy in order.

This makes the decision from the elite license committee feel extremely tough, especially at a time when the corona virus has affected sports associations' ability to get back sponsors and audiences.

They base the decision on historical figures, that we did not have the economy in balance on August 31, which feels unfair, says Lina Bertilsson, chairman of Eskilstuna United.

Contract ends

Now all contracts with players in the A team expire.

What that will mean for the squad next year is too early to say.

- Now we are focused on the new situation with the ambition to return to the Damallsvenskan.

It also requires a continued commitment from the entire association, that the audience comes back and that the fantastic 80 companies and the municipality that supported us during the year continue with it, says Lina Bertilsson.
