If you haven't done your Christmas shopping, know that there are ideas for ecological gifts to put under the tree.

Perrine Brami, "green" columnist for the show "Bienfait pour vous", lists some good tips for spending holidays that are more virtuous for the environment.

If on average we give seven gifts at Christmas, these offerings are bad news for the environment.

For the toy market in France alone, this represents more than 100,000 tonnes of waste each year.

There are still solutions to spend an ecological Christmas.

The second-hand toy market

The first alternative is to turn to second-hand toys to give to your children.

“More and more parents are getting into it,” notes the columnist.

"A toy has an average lifespan of only eight months. We have all seen a child around the tree feverishly unwrapping his presents and then abandoning them completely (...). Many specialized websites are surfing on the toy trend second-hand", she explains on Europe 1.

Théodore Chastel, co-founder of Le Tricycle, one of these specialized sites, confirms this trend.

"The second-hand market has been exploding for a few years and especially this year, for two main reasons in our opinion: the economic context, which means that more and more French people need to seek more purchasing power, and the of ecological awareness", he explains, underlining the desire of the French to "change their way of consuming, more local and more responsible in general".

Also, according to a study carried out for the King Toy brand, 48% of parents plan to buy second-hand for Christmas.

Other sites exist, such as Beebs, specializing in sales for children and babies.

"The site claims prices that go up to 80% less than the price of new", specifies Perrine Brami, listing in particular products from major toy brands.

Toys made from more durable materials

For those who are not yet ready to turn to the occasion, even if these last products are controlled and verified by specialized sites, one can turn to new products in more durable materials and avoiding the whole- plastic.

The green columnist of Bienfait pour vous discusses the example of the Cultura stores which "develop a range of fabric toys for toddlers".

Among these toys, there is a small ball, an awakening pyramid or a fabric calendar to find your bearings in time with Velcro.

"All of this is managed with sustainable materials, wood from sustainably managed forests and recycled polyester padding", points out Perrine Brami.

Good ideas to put under a natural tree, for a greener Christmas than ever.
