In 2032, the entire new Skellefteå hospital will be ready.

2.3 billion kroner costs the rebuilding and new building - which has already become 30 percent more expensive due to war and inflation.

- Although the costs are increasing rapidly, our investment in the new hospital in Skellefteå is firm.

It is needed, says regional councilor Anna-Lena Danielsson (S).

Had problems with mold

The new maternity ward is on the seventh floor of the old hospital with a view over the whole of Skellefteå.

- It is long awaited.

We have had a hard time with mold in the premises and poo floating around on the toilet floor in the old premises.

Some of our midwives have been forced to change jobs because they couldn't cope with the mold, says Terese Lindgren, who is a midwife in Skellefteå.

Construction plans ahead

After childbirth, a new women's clinic will be ready at the turn of the year.

After that, construction will start on the new nursing home, which will be larger than the current hospital building.

A large parking garage is also being built, as today's parking is being used for the Norrbotnia Railway.

There are also plans for a new health center within the hospital area and for Skellefteå to also have a primary care emergency like the one in Umeå.

It would then be located where today's emergency department is located.

A new emergency room is being built in the new hospital section.
