The students at Uppsala aesthetic high school have collected names in protest against the planned building, which is expected to be ten stories high and which they believe will destroy their school yard.

Worse study results and student flight from school are possible consequences of the house construction, fears Vera Hydling, who is in her third year at Uppsala aesthetic high school.

- There will be less sunlight for the students and then they will study worse and I think that many students will opt out of our school in the future, she says.

The house construction in long bench

The question of the construction has been a long bench in Uppsala and the height of the building has been up for decision by the government, which gave the green light to the construction.

Now Uppsala's municipal council has said yes, despite the students' objections.

Anders A Aronsson (L), first vice chairman of the building committee says that the Liberals felt compelled to vote yes, even though they were actually opposed to the building height.

- The government said yes in 2018 and then the decision has been made in the highest instance you can come to, he says.

The decision can still be appealed until December 8.
