During the pandemic year 2020, the number of reported crimes in a close relationship in the North police region increased from 3,159 to 3,906, reports continued to increase the following year.

It has not been determined what is behind the increase, but according to Aron Backman, group leader at the Norrbotten Police, one of the factors may have been that the Swedes spent more time at home.

- You worked at home, you couldn't be out and ended up in more conflicts within the family.

"The inflow is higher than what we have time for"

With the restrictions now lifted, the number of reported crimes continues to be higher than before the pandemic.

- The inflow is higher than what we have time for, says Aron Backman.

The department receives reinforcements

Today, ten people work in the crime department in a close relationship at the Norrbotten Police.

After the turn of the year, the group will be strengthened with, among other things, four investigators.

- We hope that we will be able to fill up with even more later because it is an incredibly important job.

In the clip, Aron Backman tells what needs to be done to reverse the trend.
