He published a picture of her that he knew was fake. The Nigerian first lady withdraws a defamation case against a student

The wife of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has withdrawn a defamation case against a student she accused of insulting her on Twitter, after his arrest sparked an angry response in the country.

Aminu Adamu Muhammadu was brought to appear before Aisha Bukhari at the presidential villa, and was later arrested, before being charged on November 21, in the capital, Abuja, according to court documents, according to Bloomberg news agency today, Saturday.

He was charged with publishing an illustrative photograph of the first lady, which he knew was false and capable of damaging her reputation, according to the indictment.

The first lady filed a motion to withdraw the case on Friday, three days after Mohamedou was formally arraigned, according to prosecutors and defense attorneys.

The decision followed calls by Amnesty International for the 24-year-old's immediate release, and by the Nigerian Students Association for nationwide protests on 5 December.
