The day before yesterday, US President Joe Biden held a short meeting with British Crown Prince William in Boston, where the Prince of Wales and his wife Kate presided over a ceremony on climate change at the end of their visit to the United States.

The two men shook hands and chatted about the arctic cold in the historic city during a meeting in front of the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum.

Biden, who in recent days received his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on an official visit, was visiting Boston in order to collect donations for his Democratic Party and to hold this meeting, which lasted less than an hour, with Prince William.

US presidential spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said the two men would discuss their "common climate goals" and issues related to mental health and cancer control.

Prince William and his wife's visit to the United States is their first since 2014, and their first trip abroad since the death of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II on September 8.

In a polar cold weather, William presided at the beginning of the evening the second cycle of the "Earthshot" award that he established in 2020 to support innovations aimed at combating climate change.

Five prizes worth more than £1m (€1.2m) each were awarded.

Thursday, William and Kate visited research and innovation laboratories to combat climate change in Boston, the city on the Atlantic Ocean, which like New York is threatened by rising water levels.

The couple, who have three children aged between four and nine, strive to present a more modern and approachable image of the monarchy, but also have an unquestioned sense of duty.
