A 36-year-old man was sentenced to four years in prison, including one year suspended, by the Bergerac court (Dordogne) on Thursday, reports France Bleu Périgord.

He was convicted of shooting three times at his ex-girlfriend's house in Cendrieux last Sunday.

Their child was then inside the home.

Two rifle casings were found on the wall of the house by the gendarmes.

The 30-year-old, who was alcoholic at the time, fled when the police arrived.

He was finally arrested a few kilometers further and was taken into custody on Monday.

The defendant had no prior criminal record.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court pronounced an obligation of care and work until the end of his incarceration.

He is also prohibited from possessing a weapon and from coming into contact with his ex-girlfriend, from whom he has been separated since 2018.
