On the 3rd, President Yoon Seok-yeol sent a congratulatory and encouraging message to the Korean national soccer team for advancing to the World Cup round of 16 after 12 years of dramatic come-from-behind victory over powerful Portugal.
In a congratulatory message posted on Facebook early in the morning, President Yoon said, "The challenge begins again. Congratulations on the advancement of the Korean national soccer team to the round of 16."
"Players, coaches and coaches, you have greatly impressed the people with your fighting spirit and passion," he said. "Unleash your potential to the fullest. Enjoy the game. I look forward to showing it to the world. I will cheer for you together. Fighting."
The national team, led by coach Paulo Bento, won a dramatic come-from-behind 2-1 win against Portugal at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, in the final third match of Group H of the 2022 Qatar World Cup group stage.
