They all have an appointment in Tirana, Albania, for an extraordinary summit on December 6, a first outside the EU.

The 27 are aware of the geopolitical importance of this region in supporting the war in Ukraine, migration and energy issues, and peace between them in this "powder keg".

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in a much noticed speech at the end of August, pleaded the cause of a rapid strategic enlargement to the Balkans, while Emmanuel Macron is more reserved.

Is the enlargement of the Union to the six Balkan countries a really good idea to strengthen the 27?
