As Giletti clarified, all light portable weapons "which are now in circulation in Ukraine" are of particular concern regarding the control of weapons and ammunition supplied to Kyiv.

“In fact, the theft of these weapons, which are resold on the black market by the numerous gangs and mafia networks present in this geographical area, which is considered one of the main traffic centers in Europe, is one of the biggest causes for concern, because these weapons could be in the hands of opponents of the West or can be used in future clashes," the deputy stressed, recalling that this has already happened - for example, in the case of the "Albanian mafia in 1999."

In this regard, Giletti turned to the French government, including with the question of the extent to which local and European services "control and manage the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine."

At the end of October, the US leadership announced plans to strengthen arms control in Ukrainian territories so that they do not enter the black market.

As the State Department reported at the time, various criminal actors may try to obtain weapons "from sources in Ukraine" during or after the conflict.
