Canada imposes sanctions on an Iranian company accused of sending drones to Russia

On Friday, Canada imposed sanctions on an Iranian company accused of supplying drones to Russia, in a series of new sanctions in response to "the disgraceful performance of the Iranian regime, both inside the country and abroad."

Canada had previously taken similar measures last month, against two Iranian weapons companies accused of sending drones and personnel to attack "civilians and civilian installations in Ukraine."

Thus, Ottawa has imposed sanctions on four people and five entities "for their role in the gross and systematic violations of the rights of individuals and the actions committed by the regime that continues to threaten international peace and security."

Among those targeted by these measures is the "Safiran Airport Services" company for commercial aviation and freight, which "coordinated Russian military flights between Iran and Russia" and is accused of helping to deliver Iranian drones to Moscow for use in Ukraine.

Canada also imposed sanctions on the "Baharistan Kish Company", which specializes in designing and manufacturing military drones in Iran, and which concluded agreements with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The list also includes the ultra-conservative Iranian newspaper, Javan, "which publishes anti-Semitic messages and propaganda for the Iranian regime," according to Canada.

Among the targeted officials are Morteza Talai, the second brigadier general in the Revolutionary Guards, and Hassan Karami, a general in the police, in addition to Ali Mavradiani, a senior judge and public prosecutor.

"Canada will not remain idly by while the regime commits increasingly serious and widespread human rights abuses against the Iranian people," Canada's foreign ministry said in a statement.

In all, the Canadian government has sanctioned 99 Iranian individuals and 181 entities, including the morality police.
