The president of Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), Valérie Pécresse, threatens to suspend payments concerning in particular the preparation of the Grand Paris Express and the Olympic Games, if the government does not take action to avoid an excessive increase in fares for public transport in the region, including those of the Navigo subscription.

In a deliberation – consulted on Friday by AFP – which it intends to submit to the board of directors of the regional transport authority on Wednesday, Pécresse considers “unacceptable” a 20% increase in the prices of public transport in the Ile-de-France region, inevitable according to IDFM if the State does not allow it to find new sources of financing to cope with inflation and soaring energy prices.

Call to suspend spending

Consequently, Pécresse's "wish" "calls on the government to lift its blocking of any new revenue for Ile-de-France Mobilités".

"Pending a decision from the State", the Board of Directors is called upon to suspend expenditure relating to the pre-operation of the Grand Paris Express (the Grand Paris metro), Eole (the RER E, under construction in the west) and the preparation of the transport of the Olympic Games, as well as the reductions for foreigners in an irregular situation, and the reimbursement to the State of the advance granted to absorb the losses linked to the Covid -19.

The text also invites "all public and private employers in Ile-de-France who can to reimburse 75% of the Navigo package (the monthly subscription), as the law now allows them, in order to take their full part in the financing of transport and to lighten the bill for users".

450 million to find

The institution must find 450 million euros to complete its 2023 operating budget, which it must adopt on Wednesday.

This cannot be in deficit.

If the government does not allow IDFM to find new forms of financing, the tariffs could increase by 20%.

The Navigo monthly subscription would notably increase from 75.20 to 90 euros, and the single metro ticket from 1.90 to 2.30 euros.

“For months, we have proposed” to the government “a whole series of proposals which they have swept aside: reduction in VAT, increase in the mobility payment for companies, transformation into a subsidy of the Covid debt, tax of stay on hotels of more than 4 stars, etc ”, she had written Wednesday in a letter to the associations of users.
