What led to the large damages are the lies that Jones spread after a school shooting in Connecticut in the United States in 2012. On his site Infowars, Jones has, among other things, singled out the parents of the victims as actors and claimed that the whole incident is made up as a pretext to introduce stricter gun laws.

He has therefore been sued for slander by relatives and survivors of the shooting and convicted of slander in several trials.

Missing almost 100 billion

In total, the awarded damages amount to the equivalent of more than SEK 100 billion.

According to the bankruptcy filing, Jones' assets are nowhere near such sums.

He claims to have a fortune of less than 10 million dollars, which corresponds to just over 100 million Swedish kronor.
