A 71-year-old brother from the Premonstratensian community is suspected of having committed an "attempted sexual assault" on a pilgrim of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle in the abbey of Sainte-Foy de Conques (Aveyron) on August 20, 2022, reports

La Dépêche du Midi

.

The alleged victim, aged 56, filed a complaint against the lay brother six days later in a gendarmerie in Gard.

On the day of the events, the pilgrim had requested a spiritual interview with a brother from the Premonstratensian community.

During this exchange, the monk would have, twice, slipped his hand under his clothes by the back while hugging him.

The 50-year-old would then have pushed him back and fled.

The investigation continues

After this complaint, the superior of the respondent launched a canonical procedure and alerted the public prosecutor of Caen (Calvados), place of establishment of the Premonstratensian community.

The brother was withdrawn from Conques, where he spent twenty years.

Of course, he would have given another version of the facts.

The investigation is still ongoing.
