So far, no one has been able to catch them…not even the cowboys called to the rescue.

A herd of twenty cows on the run is wreaking havoc in Quebec, and not a day goes by without them appearing on television news.

It all started this summer in Saint-Barnabé, in the Mauricie region, an hour and a half north of Montreal.

The cows took advantage of a damaged fence to pack up and found refuge in a dense and inaccessible forest in the neighboring municipality of Saint-Sévère.

They spend their days there and come out at night to feed in the corn and soybean fields, destroying part of the crops.

“I don’t go hunting cows”

"During the day, they stay hidden in the woods but as soon as dusk (twilight) arrives, in the evening, they come out, they approach buildings, open bags, try to eat crops...", explained Marie- Andrée Cadorette who works for the municipality.

And so far, these cows have largely benefited from the confusion of authorities over who is responsible, under what jurisdiction, for stray cattle.

After a while, “the police told me that the cows could be slaughtered.

I said who said "we"?

On a daily basis, the municipality is me alone in my office.

I'm in a dress with stilettos, I'm not going cow hunting, ”the municipal employee told Radio-Canada with humor.

An interview that made the happiness of social networks.

The Quebec Ministry of Agriculture intervenes

As the herd was made up of young cows who had not known domestication for long and had therefore almost become feral again, the municipality then decided to call on cowboys.

"We managed to regroup the herd of cows but it went wrong when we crossed a large field of corn which had not been threshed yet and we lost them in the corn", detailed Sylvain Bourgeois, the director of western Festival rodeos, which conducted the operation.

The media coverage of the case in recent days has prompted the Quebec Ministry of Agriculture to finally intervene in the face of a “complex and unprecedented situation”.

A new device must be deployed to lure them with food for capture.

Their owner hopes that they will let themselves be convinced, especially since the snow and the cold are coming.
