The Minister of National Education Pap Ndiaye confirmed on Thursday that schools will be affected by possible power cuts this winter.

Europe 1 takes stock of the device provided by the government in the event of a power cut, and which worries the federations of parents of students.

They will not escape the rule.

Schools, and more broadly all schools, will be affected by possible load shedding this winter, if the voltage on the electricity network is too high.

"The return of the pupils, the day concerned (by a load shedding), will take place at the beginning of the afternoon, with undoubtedly a meal which will nevertheless be provided for the pupils who are in the canteen", affirmed the Minister of Education. Education Pap Ndiaye this Thursday.

In concrete terms, families will be notified the day before at 5 p.m. if their child's establishment were to close the next morning.

Questioning child custody

Another clarification of this emerging system, priority children whose parents have jobs that prevent them from keeping them will have access to schools spared from load shedding, according to the same pattern as during the health crisis.

All these upheavals worry the families.

This brings back the specter of Covid-19 and the sometimes chaotic organization of timetables when classes closed.

"It will further penalize children in their schooling", regrets Éric Labastie, president of the Federation of Parents' Councils, at the microphone of Europe 1. "It will also strongly handicap the parents who will have to manage the children. How can they do it if they themselves, in their place of residence, are affected by a cut?”, he wonders.

Education union representatives are invited to the ministry this Friday at 4 p.m. for an emergency meeting.
