Public
health
is the institution that receives the highest level of citizen trust in Spain, followed by the institutions that guarantee the rule of law, especially the
Police
, the
Army
and, at a certain distance, also the
courts of Justice
, according to the study of public opinion
Trust in Spanish Society
, carried out by the
BBVA Foundation
.
On the other hand, in the lower part of the trust map drawn by this survey and in descending order are the
Parliament
, the
Catholic Church
, the
unions
, the
national government
,
social networks
,
banks
and
political parties
, which close the ranking. .
The BBVA Foundation study was carried out between the months of September and October 2022 through a survey of a representative sample of
4,000 people
.
This X-ray shows how the trust in the best positioned institutions among citizens corresponds to and even increases with respect to that received by the professional groups that support them: scientists, doctors, police and military are, along with teachers, those who arouse the highest level trusted.
88% of Spaniards rate public health with 5 or more points on a scale from 0 to 10. In addition, 50% of the citizens of our country give them the highest confidence scores, between 8 and 10.
Closer, more trust
At the least trusted end are the political parties, which are "trustworthy only for 28% of Spaniards."
However, trust in executive institutions depends on the degree of closeness to the citizens: this is how the
town halls
obtain a greater relative trust , followed by the
autonomous governments
and, after them, the central government.
Despite everything, as the BBVA Foundation study concludes, the lack of confidence in the performance of the elites and forces that exercise these functions does not imply detachment from the institutional framework or the principles of representative democracy, the level being very high. confidence generated by
democracy
as a form of government and
laws
and the
rule of law
, with more than 80% of the population scoring them 5 or more.
The Police and the Army confirm the upward trend of recent years and obtain very broad and intense levels of trust: close to 40% of the population gives these institutions maximum trust (grades between 8 and 10) and more than 75% scores them 5 or more.
On the other hand, the courts of justice in general and the
Constitutional Court
in particular, are in the average range of confidence of citizens: 60% and 56% respectively score them with 5 points or more.
With regard to the media, they obtain levels similar to those of the rest of the institutions that express the pluralism of society.
Newspapers
and
radio are located in
the
medium-high confidence area of the survey.
Somewhat below is
television
, which generates a more significant percentage of distrust.
As a contrast, social networks
are placed at the end of the least trust
, which are rated by almost a third of those surveyed with the worst grade range (between 0 and 2 points).
