- You never know, but I couldn't see how this couldn't go wrong.

It's nice to get the news, says Åsa Wadling, head of school in Habo municipality.

According to previous decisions from the School Inspectorate, it has not been permitted to regularly leave lessons to participate in the culture school's activities.

SVT Nyheter Jönköping has told about it before.

But according to the new decision, which was drawn up after a supervisory case in Habo municipality's primary schools, the application for leave to participate in the cultural school is now equated with the application for other leave.

A decision that pleases the head of school in Habo municipality.

Students may be denied leave

- This is just like with other leave applications.

We look at whether it affects the student's ability to reach the goals and whether there is an opportunity to make up for this through, for example, homework help.

So far, none of the around 200 who have applied for leave to play an instrument in Habo have had their leave application rejected.

It is the responsible principal who decides whether it should be granted or not.

This has been an issue for several years.

Why hasn't anyone thought of this solution before?

- That is a good question.

I think they have tried to be creative and find some logic in trying to change the school law instead of sticking to it, says Åsa Wadling.

However, she is not so sure that municipalities in the country will follow the same practice.
