Twitter has changed its rules for information about covid-19 and is removing its policy against misinformation about the virus.

This means that anyone can write anything about covid-19 and claim that the information is correct without Twitter interfering.

Public health experts worried

The change is causing concern among public health experts and social media researchers who fear this could have serious consequences.

Among other things, it can lead to discouraging people from getting vaccinated and hindering other societal efforts being made to combat the ongoing spread of covid-19.

Changed on Monday

Observant users spotted the change on Monday evening, noting that a one-sentence update had been made to Twitter's online rules:

"As of November 23, 2022, Twitter will no longer enforce the policy on misleading information about covid-19."
