According to a report by the Ministry of the Interior, some 72,000 complaints of sexual violence - outside the family setting - were recorded in 2021.
These figures have risen sharply over the past five years.
Women represent 86% of the victims, and minors 55%.
The figures, published this Wednesday by the Ministry of the Interior, make you dizzy.
In 2021, nearly 72,000 complaints for sexual crimes and offenses committed outside the family setting were recorded by the police and gendarmerie services.
This is 24% more in one year… and 77% more than in 2016. Unsurprisingly, women represent the vast majority of victims (86%).
If all offenses are on the rise, it is physical violence that has seen the greatest increase: complaints of rape have jumped 34% in one year;
among those under 15, they even jumped by 53%.
These figures are all the more worrying as they are probably very underestimated: according to a study published in 2020, less than 10% of victims of crimes and offenses of a sexual nature file a complaint.
