“Secretary Austin called for a de-escalation and conveyed that the Department of Defense is strongly opposed to Turkey's new military operation in Syria,” the U.S. military website said in a statement.

It is noted that the head of the Pentagon expressed concern, including about the recent airstrikes, some of which posed a threat to the US military.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the Turkish armed forces conducted an air operation in Syria and northern Iraq.
