Al-Jazeera correspondent in Kabul quoted an Afghan official as saying that 23 people were killed and 30 others were wounded in an explosion that occurred inside a school in Samangan Province, in the north of the country.

No details are yet available about the accident.

The past weeks have witnessed a series of sporadic explosions, the latest of which was at the beginning of this month, when two people were killed and six injured due to an explosion targeting a bus carrying government employees west of the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Last October, 8 people were killed and 20 others injured in an explosion in a mosque located inside the Ministry of Interior building in the capital.

The beginning of the famous month also witnessed a large suicide bombing that targeted an educational center west of Kabul, leaving more than 50 dead, most of them female students, in addition to about 100 injured.
