Laurent Wauquiez sees rather a good eye on Sunday's announcement by Emmanuel Macron of his desire to develop ten metropolitan RERs outside the capital to promote ecological transition.

President LR of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region thus said he was “ready” to work with the State on this file.

“On paper, it's very good news, but our somewhat mountainous temperament now encourages us to wait until we get down to business.

Because we are ready,” he said.

“We, this project, we have been working on it for five years and therefore everything is ready,” he added.

The issue of funding

“Now, the subject is not to have an announcement from the President of the Republic, (…) it is to know how much?

How much money do they put in”, he explained, recalling that “the RER in Paris was financed by national taxes and national solidarity”.

The “Lyonnaise-style RER” project represents seven billion euros of investment by 2035 with short- and medium-term projects for an amount of 1.4 billion euros.

The region also mentions already “very successful” regional projects such as the development of a new track at Lyon Part-Dieu station or a Lyon-Trévoux line (Ain) by high-level bus service (BHLS).

Laurent Wauquiez also indicated that he wanted to work on this dossier with the environmentalist president of the Lyon metropolis, Bruno Bernard, while specifying that his objective was "to deal with all the metropolises of our territory" such as Grenoble, Saint-Etienne, Clermont-Ferrand .
