A man arrested in the Paris region could be the strangler of Perpignan.

Over the past three weeks, several people had been attacked near Place Arago, in the center of Perpignan.

The modus operandi was always the same: they were attacked from behind by a man who strangled them, sometimes until they fainted, before stealing their personal belongings.

Stopped during an identity check

The national police had launched an appeal for witnesses to find possible victims.

At least five people are said to have filed a complaint.

These attacks had led to the onset of psychosis in the prefecture of Pyrénées-Orientales.

According to France Bleu Roussillon, a suspect meeting the profile sought was arrested in Paris.

His profile had been determined from CCTV footage.

He was arrested during an identity check.

It would be a man of foreign nationality.
