It was in April last year when personal data such as mobile numbers, dates of birth, email addresses and location information from over half a million users of Facebook and Instagram, among other things, were leaked on a hacker's website.

Now Facebook's owner Meta has been fined 265 million euros, equivalent to almost 2.9 billion kroner, by Ireland's data inspectorate.

In just over a year, the IT giant has thus received close to SEK 10 billion in fines in Ireland, according to Dagens Nyheter.

Has violated the data protection regulation GDPR

In September 2021, Meta was sentenced to 225 million euros in fines, equivalent to 2.5 billion kroner.

In addition, the company had to recover 17 million euros in March and another 405 million euros earlier last fall, a total corresponding to 4.6 billion kroner.

In all of these cases, Meta was fined by Ireland's DPC, which believes that the company has failed to protect users' privacy and thus breached the GDPR.
